Description

A superb .54-bore double-barrel, tap-action, brass framed flintlock pistol by S Rawlins & Co, circa 1790. Overall length 5.1/4in., round steel barrels approx. 1.3/4in.  Steel barrels to pleasing shiny grey speckled patina with some surface pitting particularly to the breach end of the upper barrel and to the side of the lower barrel.  The brass frame engraved with "S Rawlins & Co" in a banner surrounded with a stand of arms, the opposite side also with a stand of arms. The steel triggertap action engraved although a little worn, particularly the tap washer.  The brass frame and both barrels with Birmingham proof marks.  The action is crisp, the tap lever and the safety catch are working well. The one piece plain walnut "bag-shaped" grip  with some dings a slight split to the side with the stand of arms above the lower brass tang.  Some insignificant knocks/ wear to this superb pistol commensurate with its age.  Additional information and photographs on request
