Rare Victorian Staffordshire Yeomanry Officers busby, lines and tin Circa 1895. Rare Continental European Cavalry Troopers Single-Bar, Lobster-Tail Helmet, Circa 1650
( Headgear.0001aa )

Rare Continental European cavalry troopers single-bar, lobster-tail helmet, Circa 1650. The skull constructed from two pieces with a central riveted/ reinforced joint section.  The rear lobster-tal/ neck-guard  is riveted to the skull and constructed from a single piece, but with articulated lames simulated into it.  The reinforced peak is also riveted to the skull, to a heart shape and with the single nasal bar passing through it and controlled by a hand-cut threaded "butterfly" screw.  Both protective ear flaps are present and with pierced holes to aid hearing, but the original flexible leather attachment to one has deteriorated over the centuries, and the ear piece now attached by a later cord.  The edges to the ear-flaps, lobster-tail and front peak all with wire wrapped reinforcement.  The original helmet lining has long since perished, but the original leathers to which this would have been attached are still riveted to the helmet and show stitch marks where the lining would once have been attached.  The helmet to a dark brown/ grey patina with surface "old" rust discouration and surface pitting throughout.  A few minor dings and a slight age/ fatigue crack beneath one of the rivets to the rear of the lobster-tail.  Otherwise an opportunity to own a superb and increasingly rare lobster tail helmet circa. 1650,  in complete and good overall condition.  Payment via cash (insured postage please), cheque, postal order or money order Credit/Debit Card: Delta, Electron, JCB, Maestro, Mastercard, Pin Train, Solo, UK Maestro or VISA.
