Ju88A-1, W. Nr 3168, 3Z+FT of 9, Staffel/ Kampfgeschwader 77.

Main wheel hub relic, recovered from the crash site.

This aircraft was engaged by Hurricanes of No. 310 Squadron, R.A.F. following a bombing raid on London railway targets at 17:40hrs on 18th September 1940.

The Ju88 was attacked by various pilots including F/O S. Fejfar, F?S M.Jiroudek, Sgt E. M. C. Prchal, Sgt R.Puda and possibly also P/O V. Bergman and the starboard engine was set on fire.  The bomber lost control and crashed near Vange Creek, Pitsea Marshes, Basildon, Essex.

 

Pilot:           Feldwebel Otto Wahl – Killed

Observer:   Feldwebel O. Graf baled out, wounded – Prisoner of War

Radio/Op:  Gefreiter Hans Buschbeck – Killed

Air Gunner: Gefreiter Paul Lesker – Killed

 

This large and heavy Battle of Britain relic is a brake assembly hub from one of the aircrafts main landing wheels.

It measures 16.5″ x 3″ and weighs 6 kg…!
