Dutch? WW2 German Made SS Lion Head Officers Sword Distributor Marked CHR. BECKER MAINZ

Description

Dutch? WW2 German made SS Lion Head Officers sword, distributor marked CHR. BECKER MAINZ.  Overall length approx 37.1/4 in., blade length 31.1/2 in.  The chrome single edged, double fullered blade is plain other than unusually the distributors name on one dide of the rocasso, "CHR. BECKER MAINZ" (I think the manufacturer was probably Alcoso).  mark to the rear along with the manufactures mark of "ART.KRUPP, BERNDORF". The integral aluminium cross guard/ langets/ knucklebow with aluminium showing through the gilt at the highpoints.  The backstrap/ lions head pommel similarly withfront  with aluminium showing through the gilt at the highpoints.  The lions head retains both of its red stone eyes and the black leather grip and twisted brass wire bindings are in good condition.  One of the langets with embossed nazi eagle over the swastika.  The opposite langet with SS rhunes hand cut into it rather than by a jewler engraving it – possibly a hard up Dutch SS officer?  The steel scabbard retains most of its original black finish with some loss towards the bottom chape, the sword suspender ring and attachments etc and at the point of a door trap/ bends at about 2/3 of the way down the scabbard. Although the scres are present still, the top throat chape is now absent.

A very interesting and increasingly rare sword in reasonable overall condition.
