Flintlock Boxlock Screw Off Barreled Travelling Pistol By Ketland

£600.00

Description

A .45 boxlock, screw-off flintlock travelling pistol by Ketland & Co, circa 1790. Overall length approx 7.1/2 in., round steel barrel approx. 2.1/2 in.  Barrel to a pleasing grey/ brown patina with a few insignificant aged/ old gouges by inexpert attempts to unscrew the barrel and London proof marks beneath.  The steel frame is also to a pleasing grey/ brown patina and is plain other than one side engraved with "Ketland & Co".  Behind the fold down trigger is an unusual safety catch.  The action is crisp although the frizzen is slightly loose and both the flint cock and frizzen are to the same grey brown patins. The one piece plain walnut "bag-shaped" grip with a vacant white metal oval escutcheon to the top.  Some dings particularly to the bottom of the grip consistant with age/ useage.  Generally in good overall condition commensurate with its age.  Additional information and photographs on request
