German 1898 2nd Pat. bayonet with matching numbers Overall length 27 in, blade length 20.1/2 in. The steel pipe-backed, single edged, double fullered, spear-pointed blade to a dull steel finish with patches of “old” rust throughout. On one side of the ricasso it says “SIMSON & CO SUHL”. The cross-guard integral hooked quillon to a dark “old” rust brown finish, as is the pommel and muzzle release, with light pitting particularly to the pommel. The muzzle release button works well. The cross-guard is stamped “100 R. 9.105” and is matching numbers to the reverse of the throat of the scabbard. The age darkened wooden grip is complete and in good condition. The black leather scabbard is complete with its lower and throat steel chapes, that are also to a dark “old” rust brown appearance, again, with some surface pitting in places. The black leather scabbard has a door trap type dent about 3/4 of the way up that unfortunately seem to have burst some of the rear stitching for approx. 3 ins. There are several inspection marks stamped into the mouth chape along with “100 R. 9.105” matching the bayonet.
An increasingly scarce and difficult to find Imperial German bayonet complete and in good overall condition.
