Model 1874 Peabody Martini Rifle socket bayonet (scabbard absent). Overall length 23in, cruciform blade length approx 20.1/2 in. The blade to a shiny steel patina with darker “old” rust marks throughout, with an inspection mark to one of the sides at the rocasso and the socket stamped “M 279”. The socket also to a shiny steel patina with darker “old” rust marks throughout. The original locking ring is present and works well. The scabbard is now absent, the bayonet itself is in good condition for its age.
