July 1917 Iron Cross Second Class citation, picture postcards and listening set explanation. The Citation dated 25. 7. 1917 to Gefreiten Paul Ropstorf von der Wurtt Ardendt-Abeilung Nr. 4 Along with the certificate is a sitting portrait photo-postcard of Gefreiten Paul Ropstorf, a group of 7 including Gefreiten Paul Ropstorf around a table and an explanation that German listening sets were named after the designing engineer Ardendt.

An Ardendt Detachment was attached to the HQ of each army and consisted of about 15 officers and 300 other ranks. The Arendt group consisted of several listening sets, one for each divisional sector. Each listening set had 10 to 20 NCOs and men besides each divisional sector also providing a mobile policing set checking German conversations.

An interesting and unusual set contained within a modern glazed frame and in good overall condition.
