A scarce gunsight telescope stamped “OS 813 GA” and in white paint “TELESCOPE SIGHTING NO22D Mk1 ALBO 1943 No 53485. Overall length is 15.3/4 in and in good overall condition other than the loss of some of its original black gloss finish paint and with good optics.
This anti-tank telescopic gunsight is of the direct line of sight type with cross hairs and aiming marks and and “R” and “L” indicated on the horizontal line to fire at moving targets. Type No22 D gunsights were made only for the 6 pounder anti-tank gun. This type is similar to the No22 C MK 111 used on the 2 pounder and for direct fire on the 25 pounder field gun but the mounting lug is about 3.5 cms further forward. Possibly to lessen difficulties of eye relief for the aimer working on the larger and longer 6 pounder gun carriages. It seems that No 22 C MK 111 was were also used on the early 6 pounder. 1943 was possibly the date of the first No 22 D Mk1s being made.
A scarce British anti tank gun sight in good overall condition.
